Instead of giving GDP numbers, GDP/Capita and all those Statistics to make you feel good or bad, I decided to answer Nagarajan Sir’s question in the form of a long meandering discourse.
I land at Hyderabad or Bangalore Airports. The airports are spotless, well maintained, orderly and the people follow all the rules, the security is run smoothly like clockwork. The Uber and Taxi System is excellent and smoothly run. So is the Baggage Carousel, Immigration, Customs, etc. etc. WOW!

I generally don’t place a time scale on who is ahead or who is behind and by how many years in this “Game of Nations”.
Anyone, who looks behind to see who’s on their heel. will befall the same fate as all the suitors of the lovely Atalanta in Greek Mythology, who was the fastest runner in the world.

This so-called race is in my opinion, a Phantasm, that only exists in people’s mind and I would wager that this Phantasm chiefly exists, it seems in India- which is looking at China with a mixture of envy and jealousy.
Housing: When I land in Hyderabad and travel through Cyber City, I feel like I’m in China.
This paradox argues that Viswa Parihasa, a swifter than Dung runner, can never overtake the slower Dung Poo Pew, who has a head start by the way, because by the time Viswa Parihasa reaches the Dung's starting point, Dung will have moved forward, and Viswa must then catch up to that new position, repeating this process… ad infinitum.
China did that and still does that too. And I can’t understand complaints by the US and Russians here.

So what I’m suggesting is that rather than constantly comparing and tearing one’s clothes in agony, employ what the Japanese call “Nemawashi” and Poka Yoke
So no harm for Indians to “copy” the technology obtained by sweat and tears and expense of billions of dollars or rubles over decades by the big Two.
Again, in any urban setting in India, the Malls are an eco-system as good as any experience in China.
So, here is my proposition.
So, if China were at all worried, like Hippomenes, that India would overtake them in this “race” that they are not worried about, then they will like Hippomenes toss some thorny crab apples* to distract the nattering classes in India.
Many lost their heads, as they looked behind to see if Atalanta was gaining on them . Hippomenes was given a head start by Atalanta.
AQI (Air Quality Index) Delhi and Beijing… stinks to high heavens. Equivalent to smoking two packs of cigarettes/day even for the non-smoker.
